Leo Aguirre and Dave Minton went to the Corvette N America road tour June 8th through June 10th.  We left El Paso at seven in the morning on Thursday and drove to Las Cruces, Deming, Silver City, Glenwood, Alpine, Springerville, Show Low, Holbrook, and Flagstaff.  Some of you are probably wondering why Show Low (okay I was leading and got lost) However in my defense, I haven't been that way in about twenty years, and someone didn't say anything and followed the blind man.  We had a great time weaving through the winding roads of New Mexico and Arizona.  Those roads were built for Corvettes, Yippee!

We got to Flagstaff at 3:30 on Thursday after stopping in Silver City to gas up and Show Low for lunch.  Leo said something about a dive (lousy restaurant) in Springerville so we pasted that one up. We didn't run into any heavy traffic until I-40 or Police either until the freeway.  It was smooth sailing and the vettes just hummed along.  Again I can't emphasize enough how much fun it was.  You guys really missed a fun trip.  Anyway, Leo went to the reception scheduled with two guys from General Motors as guest speakers. It rained that evening so I just washed my car for the next day.  Early the next morning after breakfast we met at Sam's Club and about 178 corvettes participated in the trek from Flagstaff to Sedona.  We drove down
Oak Creek Canyon Road amongst the pine trees and a line of vettes easily more than a mile long.  I was the fifth car and Leo was the seventh car, so we were right up front.  I got some pictures which are attached to the file.  The drive was a bit of a
disappointment since we never even got up to the speed limit going down, but for the scenery people it was seventh heaven.  We arrived in Sedona around nine o'clock and had until three thirty to browse around.  Leo and I walked around town, took a bus (trolley) tour of the area, had lunch and checked out the scenery.  There are some big houses there.

We decided that the drive down was too slow so we left early to return to the Route 66 Museum Club for the road tour awards.  About five of us drove back up around fifty due to heavy traffic and a couple of slow corvette guys.  Anyway it was quicker than going down.  After getting our awards we went to dinner.

Saturday was the show and shine.  I met Leo for breakfast at his hotel and we drove our vettes to the high school football field.  There were 110 vettes on display.  The show started at 10:00 am and was over by 2:00 pm.  up front they had a display of '53, '63, '73, '84, '03, and a brand new Z06 '06.  (It won an award.)  There were cars from every era there along with modified vettes with vertical doors and a Z06 convertible.  Also there was a C5 '53.  Just about that evening, however I did not attend.  Leo was going to go, however I had scheduled to return home.

Leo was going hiking on Sunday around the Grand Canyon and was to return home on Monday.  I had to be back at work on Monday so I left on Saturday afternoon.  I went down I 17 to Phoenix and then across 60 to Apache Junction, Globe, Safford, Lordsburg and I-10 home.

One license plate on one the vettes was FSTFRWD (fast forward) and the license plate holder read "If You're Passing Me.....It's cause I'm Lettin' Ya!"  Ain't it the truth.  I cranked her up through the mountains around Globe and from Safford.....hooee!!!

Next outing we need more vettes...
